The thistle is inspired by Queen Victoria’s love of Scotland, as she spent a considerably amount of time in her newly bought and designed Balmoral Castle and it’s estate. As an Englishwoman and Queen, she became known for wearing tartans which then influenced fashion and became very popular as an everyday fabric pattern, even to this day. In this course you will develop and manipulate tatting techniques to create a stunning tatted thistle collage using the Black Watch Tartan as a background, ready for framing.
Alongside learning to tat, you will be immersed into the times with Victorian music, cake from a traditional recipe and gain inspiring insight into the history and origins of tatting.
In this course, you will learn to…
- Confidently needle tat using fine thread
- Manipulate Picots
- Manipulate your tatted pieces to create the desired outcome
- Arrange your design onto fabric
- Use a couple of basic embroidery stitches to enhance your final piece
