A lady’s fan was her way of secretly communicating to men during a time when women’s behaviour was highly scrutinised. Although the art of ‘fan language’ is lost today, it became very popular among the Victorian ladies as a freedom of expression and rebellion from the restrictions in society’s etiquette. In this course you will create your own miniature lace fan using the old technique of needle tatting, ready for framing.
Alongside learning to tat, you will be immersed into the times with Victorian music, cake from a traditional recipe and gain inspiring insight into the history and origins of tatting.
In this course, you will learn to….
– Create a piece with multiple layers
– Confidently needle tat with a medium thread
– Follow a tatting diagram and pattern
– Include beads into your work (optional)
